Chrome: ERR_FILE_TOO_BIG
Oh dear. Does anyone else get this error? To be fair, I was trying to download a 3.7GB file, but I tried this with Firefox and IE7 and obviously there were no problems. At the time of writing, the number of people getting the same error (according to Google) I could count on one hand (without counting my thumb).
Error 8 (net::ERR_FILE_TOO_BIG): Unknown error.
This sounds like the kind of error you get in pre-release software, so I’m not too bothered.

‘beta’ has some meaning even for google products :[
Aye it’s been like that for months, and still no fix. You’d think there’d be more mention of it to be honest: surely there’s more people than just us downloading large files…?
This page is top of google for the “ERR_FILE_TOO_BIG” search, and it’s only a small blog. I’m just surprised there’s not more talk about it!

I experienced this a while a go.
and.. finally found the answer.
its discussed here, title of the page wasn’t too related with how people would search for it, so it doesn’t show up. http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/src/net/proxy/proxy_script_fetcher.cc?view=markup&pathrev=6699
Chrome is open source, for those interested and couldn’t wait for the next update of chrome, they can try to fix a few lines.
referenced to the link above.
also, the way I see it, it’s caused by chrome’s attempt to check the filesize of the download, which in some webhosts, doesn’t allow.
I’m not a techy guy, but I just thought I’d share my views.
cool blog btw.

So I came across this because I was getting the same error. However, I got this problem while I was setting up my own apache we server. I wanted to be able to download a 7.5 GB file. I figured that the problem was with my server configuration (and part of it was), but I found out that neither Chrome nor IE would download the file. Firefox was the only browser (of the 3) that would download the file. Seeing as Apache (by default), Chrome, and IE all would not handle downloads of that size, I assume that maybe w3 (World Wide Web Consortium) probably discourages downloads of that size over http. Just a thought though.
However, the light at the end of the tunnel, there is a work around. If you get a download manager, then it will be able to handle large downloads. I didn’t experiment with this too much, but I know it works for IE. To get this to work on Chrome, you will probably need to find a download manager that is compatible with Chrome. This may be difficult since Chrome is such a new browser and comes with a very nice download manager built in.
